A New Leaf Responds to COVID-19 Virus

With the recent spread of the Coronavirus and disruption in the Valley, A New Leaf is taking steps to address the crisis and protect the health of clients, staff, volunteers, donors, and the community at large.

“While we don’t have any confirmed cases connected to A New Leaf,” said CEO Michael Hughes, “we believe that we must do all that we can to ensure a safe environment for our community. Our goal is to do real mitigation now, and that means taking specific steps – big and small – to combat the virus.”

A New Leaf’s clients are among the most vulnerable members of the community, many without insurance or with limited health resources. They are at a higher risk, and staff members are coming together creatively and proactively to help each family prepare.

A variety of precautionary measures have been implemented, such as minimizing gatherings, social distancing, enhanced deep cleaning and sanitation of facilities, encouraging everyone to practice good hygiene consistent with the advice published by the CDC, and utilizing tele-health protocols and phone sessions when possible. A New Leaf is open for business while taking these precautionary steps.

A New Leaf is in touch with clients to make them aware of how to receive services safely while maintaining a process for changing conditions and practices based on recommendations from local and state public health officials.

Board Chair Deborah Smith said, “The extraordinary commitment of our donors and supporters is helping make services available, and during this time of upheaval the need is even more urgent. The additional costs are significant. We are so grateful to the outpouring of support from our partners during this time of uncertainty.”

A New Leaf is actively monitoring updates from the CDC and Arizona Department of Health Services as well as reviewing and updating plans and protocols as the situation evolves. A New Leaf will continue to communicate updates in coming days to all stakeholders. Thank you for your continued support. We appreciate you!
