What is Foster Care Awareness Month 2022 (FCAM)?
Foster Care Awareness Month is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the foster care system. This month of awareness aims to celebrate all foster parents and volunteers, as well as the children who are currently living in foster care. A New Leaf actively works to create loving homes for foster children through our Foster Care Programs, serving families and children across the Valley.
Foster care is a vital service that helps children in need. It provides them with a safe and nurturing environment while they wait for their parents to get back on their feet. The foster care system is not perfect, but it does help many children each year. Foster care also provides an opportunity for these children to have a better life than they would otherwise have had.
How to Participate in FCAM This Year
Foster Care Awareness Month is May and it’s the perfect opportunity to make a positive impact on children in the Foster System. You can get involved with organizations like A New Leaf which provides services for foster families and children in need. And if you’re not sure what you can do, here are a few simple things you can do to take action:
1. The most important thing that you can do to support foster care awareness month is to make sure that you are aware of what is happening in the foster care system. Find more information about the Foster Care System on A New Leaf’s website, or at other resources like the Arizona’s Children Association, the Arizona Department of Child Safety, or Adopt US Kids.
2. Consider volunteering to help foster children! Many of these children need help and guidance to grow into happy and healthy adults. Volunteering at a A New Leaf for a few hours can make a big difference in the life of these kids. You might be surprised by how rewarding it is to get to know these children better, and how much it can change your perspective on life.
3. Spread the word on social media! Social media is a powerful platform to share your message with the world. Follow A New Leaf on social media and tag us in posts related to FCAM to promote awareness. A New Leaf is active on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
4. The most direct way that you can help children in the foster care system is by making a donation today. Even a small donation can change the life of a child forever. A New Leaf is eligible for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, however, we are not eligible for the Arizona Foster Care Tax Credit.
Understanding the Issue: Why Does Foster Care Matter?

A New Leaf’s Foster Care Program recruits and trains adults to become licensed foster parents or Respite Providers.
