La Mesita Fact Sheet
La Mesita is a 30-unit family shelter that provides temporary emergency housing, case management, job development, licensed childcare (by the Department of Economic Security) and ancillary services to help homeless families with minor aged children become self-reliant. Infants and preschool children may receive childcare services at La Mesita’s Child Development Center, while school-aged youth may participate in La Mesita’s Youth Development Center. Services are provided at no cost to families.
The Child Development Center (CDC) licensed through Arizona DES, provides daycare and afterschool services for children (ages 5 and under) living at La Mesita. The CDC is a welcoming and nurturing environment where parents can leave their young ones while pursuing employment, counseling or educational services.
The Youth Development Center (YDC) staff work with youth ages 6 to 17 after school, during the school year, and all day during the summer. Sports, arts and science projects, homework assistance, community service projects, fieldtrips and other activities are planned on a weekly basis. Youth participating in the program take an acitve roll in planning program services.
La Mesita provides two 1,250 square-foot units to accommodate larger families and/or residents with disabilities. La Mesita is the only emergency shelter in the East Valley providing a broad array of services to homeless families.
Each year La Mesita provides up to 4 months of comprehensive shelter services to over 400 homeless adults and their children. To support La Mesita Shelter, please contact A New Leaf’s Development Department at (480) 464-4648.

East Valley Men's Fact Sheet
The East Valley Men's Center is a transitional shelter for up to 84 homeless men who make the initial commitment to get off the street and back in to the economic and social mainstream.
By providing training, work assistance, counseling, socialization skills, food and shelter, the staff help residents reach their goals of permanent employment, stable housing and increased self-sufficiency.
A network of volunteers diligently provides dinner to the men each and every day of the year. Together with in-kind donations of clothing, personal hygiene items and more, basic needs are met and the ability to move forward becomes less stressful and more of a reality.
If you and your group are interested in providing dinner for the men at the shelter, please contact Shelly Bliss at sbliss@turnanewleaf.org or call 480-610-6722.
