October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and A New Leaf’s shelters and services help nearly 3,000 victims and survivors in the Valley each year. A New Leaf marks the special awareness month with community outreach, creating awareness by wearing purple, social media and special events.
During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, A New Leaf volunteers and staff will be presenting to community groups and schools about the facts around domestic violence, educating the public about A New Leaf services and creating awareness by wearing purple every Friday during the month, as well as October 15, which is National Purple Day. Social media hashtags are #somethingpurpleforDV, #wearingpurpleshouldnthurt, and #DVAM2015.
Additionally, A New Leaf will launch a unique indoor golfing fundraising event at TopGolf Scottsdale on October 23 called Teed Off at Domestic Violence. Dignitaries, donors and survivors will be participating in this new event. Register on the Teed Off page of our website.
A New Leaf provides Arizona’s oldest operating domestic violence shelter, Faith House in Glendale, and a large domestic violence shelter in the East Valley, Autumn House, located in Mesa. Besides emergency shelter, A New Leaf provides transitional housing, childcare, workforce training, and basic needs for survivors of domestic violence.
